Hal Leonard Europe and RSL announce new long-term commercial agreement

Leading music publisher Hal Leonard Europe (HLE) and leading awarding body RSL have announced a new, long-term agreement. Under the deal, HLE will continue to be the exclusive worldwide distributor of RSL’s best-selling Rockschool series of books, produced in support of the Rockschool graded examinations, which include Guitar, Bass, Drums, Ukulele, Piano, Keyboards, Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Music Production and Music Theory. HLE and RSL will work closely together to continue developing the catalogue and growing sales.

The enhanced collaboration with RSL further strengthens HLE’s position as the market leader for educational music publications and reflects the increasing popularity of graded Rock & Pop examinations in the UK and around the world.

“At Hal Leonard Europe we believe in the benefits of lifelong music making, and graded exams are a great way to engage and structure musical progress. RSL pioneered graded exams for the contemporary musician and continue to innovate and inspire with their syllabuses. At HLE we are delighted to be renewing the very special relationship we enjoy with RSL and are very much looking forward to working together to develop the Rockschool series.”

About RSL

Originating in 1991, RSL Awards had a dream to change the landscape of formal music education, and sought to become the first viable alternative to the traditional offerings available by creating the world’s first graded exam syllabus for popular music. The company has grown to offer examinations and supporting materials in a wide range of instruments, along with innovative Vocational Qualifications taught in Schools and Colleges around the world, and specialist Performing Arts Awards in Musical Theatre and Dance.

Annually RSL Awards certificates around 100,000 qualifications that enable a world-wide community of educators in the creative industries to help students achieve their goals. Alumnus include Ed Sheeran, Jess Glynne, and Mercury Music Prize winners Wolf Alice.

In 2018, RSL proudly received the Queens Award for Enterprise in International Trade. Widely regarded as the most prestigious business awards in the country, the award celebrates the UK’s small and medium sized businesses for outstanding achievement.
