London, UK, 17th October 2024 – Hal Leonard was proud to once again be the headline sponsor of the 2024 Youth Music Awards, marking the fifth consecutive year of support for this inspiring event. Taking place at the iconic Troxy in London, the Awards celebrated 25 years of Youth Music’s tireless work in breaking down barriers and ensuring that every young person has the opportunity to make, learn, and earn in music. This year’s event was a celebration of creativity, diversity, and talent, bringing together a vibrant mix of emerging artists, entrepreneurs, and grassroots projects that are shaping the future of the music industry. With an incredible lineup of judges that includes the legendary Eve, broadcaster and comedian Amelia Dimoldenberg, the globally renowned DJ duo BICEP, influential DJ and producer Gilles Peterson MBE, artist and actor Jordan Stephens, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter MNEK, the trailblazing rock duo Nova Twins, and Hal Leonard Europe’s UK Managing Editor Louise Unsworth, the stage was set for another year of bold musical achievements.
One of this year’s standout moments was Hal Leonard presenting the Social Action Award to Supermann on da beat (he/him), a Scottish Disabled South Asian Music Producer. Supermann has not only made a name for himself with his genre-blending, boundary-pushing sound but also through his advocacy for greater accessibility in music venues. His campaign for inclusivity has gained national attention, and his work exemplifies the transformative power of music in driving social change. The other nominees, Blue Cabin, which uses music to support care-experienced children, and CHARIS, bringing music to asylum-seeking families, were also recognised for their vital contributions to fostering community and inclusivity through music. Hal Leonard is proud to recognise Supermann’s contributions to both the music industry and the disabled community and congratulate Blue Cabin and Charis on their nominations.
The 2024 Youth Music Awards reflect a milestone year, celebrating not just the nominees and winners, but a quarter-century of Youth Music’s transformative impact on the UK music scene. Over 25 years, Youth Music has helped to reshape the industry, creating new pathways for young talent and fostering greater inclusivity for all, regardless of background, identity, or circumstance. The Awards offer a platform for Youth Music NextGen Fund recipients and those involved in Youth Music-funded projects since 2018 to showcase their talents and be recognised for their achievements.
“We are always blown away by the unbelievable level of talent on display at the Youth Music Awards, and this year is no exception. It is a privilege to give a platform to celebrate up-and-coming artists and leaders who are all driving forces in equalising access to music. “Grassroots projects continue to face a major funding crisis, so it is now more important than ever to recognise the opportunities they are providing to marginalised young people, nationwide. Huge congratulations to all of tonight’s winners and nominees.”
Matt Griffiths, Chief Executive Officer, Youth Music
“It’s an honour to present this year’s Social Action Award to Supermann on da beat, on behalf of Hal Leonard. His genre-defying music and passionate advocacy for accessibility in music venues embody the spirit of this award. Supermann’s work not only challenges the status quo in the music industry but also inspires a future where every space is open to all, regardless of ability. His impact extends far beyond the stage, reminding us that music has the power to break down barriers and drive real social change. We’re incredibly proud to recognise his remarkable contributions to both music and inclusivity.”
